Public Health Programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences University of Balamand

Professional and career opportunities in the health care fields are increasing in number and scope. Opportunities range from those related to addressing the needs of individuals to those related to the needs of communities and societies at large. Possibilities in Lebanon and all over the world are increasingly available to capable university graduates with degrees in public health and health sciences.

The Faculty of Health Sciences offers uniquely interesting academic tracks that provide graduates with knowledge, understanding, competencies, and critical thinking that would allow them to be competitive in, and capable of, engaging professional careers in the fields of Public Health and Development Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nutritional Sciences, and Nursing.

The Undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health and Development Sciences prepares graduates for professional careers as team members, junior and middle managers, executives, policy makers, activists, and leaders dedicated to improving the health, safety, and welling of individuals, families, groups, communities, and societies at large. It enables students to build their understanding and competencies about the integral relationship between health, wellbeing, environment, and socioeconomic development; with particular emphasis on prevention, promotion, and advocacy. It strengthens and expands the know-how and abilities of graduates to assume instrumental value-added roles in advocacy, and within concerned local and international governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations.

Students with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health and Development Sciences will be able to:

1- Complete graduation requirements in three academic years .

2- Benefit from program-specific financial aid and student work opportunities.

3- Find jobs and assume professional roles in government, community based entities and organizations; in private companies and entities; in international organizations; in the non-governmental sector; in schools, hospitals, and other service entities.

4- Pursue Master level degrees and continue towards Doctorate level degrees in Universities in Lebanon and other countries around the world.

In addition, enrolled students may elect to enroll in the PRE Medical Track of the Program to have the opportunity to complete the course requirements and the MCAT preparations needed should they be interested in applying to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Balamand or any other medical school.

The Graduate program leading to a Master in Public Health (MPH) is designed to expand the knowledge, skills and competencies of students who are interested in assuming advanced professional and leadership careers in the fields of health and development. Particular design elements enable capable students with accredited Bachelor Degrees in almost any field to enroll in the Program, with particular attention to academic needs based on track of study and experience.

Students with a Master in Public Health

Degree (MPH) will be able to:

1- Complete graduation requirements as full-time or as part-time students.

2- Benefit from graduate assistantship opportunities.

3- Find jobs, take charge of middle and senior level professional roles, and assume leadership of programs, and of local and international entities concerned with the health-related needs of individuals, communities, and societies at large.

4- Pursue Doctorate level degrees in Lebanon and other countries around the world.
