AUB students win national computer programming competition

Twenty three-student teams representing 13 universities in Lebanon registered for the contest.

“The contest provides an excellent opportunity for students majoring in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, IT, and IT-related subjects to show their skills in programming and also to meet students from other institutions,” said Wassim El-Hajj, chairman of the Department of Computer Science at AUB, which organized the competition. “This contest, which gathers the top programmers in Lebanon, also prepares the various teams for the regional and world programming contests.”

The competition is the first phase of one of the oldest most prestigious programming contests in the world, the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).

Winners of the national competition qualify for the regional competitions, which will take place in Sharm El- Sheikh November 14-18, 2014.

Competitors were asked to solve 10 difficult computer programming questions. The team that answered the biggest number of questions correctly in the fastest time possible won. The problem set and judges were provided by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The competition was sponsored by Murex and Computers and Communication Technology (CCT).
